Phuket in November: Weather, Where to Stay & Island Trips

November can be a good time to visit Phuket if you want warm weather, beach time and the start of the Andaman island season. Treat it as a transition month, though: keep your boat day flexible, choose a hotel area that suits your evenings, and leave room for rain. A well-placed base will do more for your holiday than an itinerary packed with beaches on opposite sides of the island.
This guide helps you choose between Kata, Kamala, Karon and Patong, understand the island-trip options, build a realistic spending plan and put a first Phuket visit together. The seasonal updates below were checked on 21 October 2026; the route suggestions are Leeylo’s editorial recommendations.
What is new for Phuket’s 2026–27 season?
There is a timely reason to start planning. In its 20 October Andaman update, the Tourism Authority of Thailand reported that the Similan Islands reopened on 15 October 2026 and Maya Bay reopened on 1 October. These are separate destinations outside Phuket itself, often visited through excursions from the island.
UK travellers have another new option: TAT announced a seasonal Virgin Atlantic service between London Heathrow and Phuket, launched in October for winter 2026–27. Compare the actual flight dates, baggage and total journey cost before booking.
Phuket in November: what weather should you plan for?
Plan for tropical warmth, humidity, sunshine and the possibility of substantial rain. November sits around the seasonal change on the Andaman coast. The shift is gradual; it does not happen on a fixed date, and a forecast for Phuket Town will not tell you everything about conditions offshore.
For a November trip, choose accommodation you would enjoy during a wet afternoon. Put a land-based day beside your island excursion, keep the operator’s cancellation conditions, and check the Thai Meteorological Department before heading out. Seasonal patterns are useful for choosing a month; they are not a forecast for your exact travel dates.
November
A reasonable option if you accept changing conditions and keep the programme flexible. Avoid making your final available day the only possible boat day.
December to February
A more established part of the drier season. Compare hotel terms early around Christmas and New Year, and still follow daily sea advice.
Can you swim in November? Sometimes, when the specific beach and conditions are suitable. Follow lifeguards and the flags at the beach you are actually using. A red flag means do not swim. Clear skies do not make a strong current safe.

Where to stay in Phuket: Kata, Kamala, Karon or Patong?
For a balanced first beach holiday, start by comparing Kata and Kamala. Choose Patong when nightlife is a central part of the trip, and consider Karon when a long beach and a practical west-coast location suit you. These are starting points: the exact hotel pin, hill, road crossing and walk to dinner can change the experience within the same area.

Kata and Kata Noi — a balanced beach holiday
Kata is a useful shortlist for couples and first-time visitors who want beach time, places to eat and access to the southern part of Phuket. Kata Noi has a more enclosed beach setting, but a hotel there can mean extra transport for evenings elsewhere. Check whether “near Kata” means an easy walk or a steep hillside address. Open Kata Beach in Google Maps.
Kamala — a gentler pace with beach evenings
Consider Kamala if you prefer quieter evenings to being in the middle of Patong’s nightlife. Compare the central beach area with the more isolated properties around the bay: a scenic resort location and a walkable dinner location are not always the same thing. Kamala makes more sense when most of your stay is on the west coast than when every day involves the far south. Find Kamala Beach.
Karon — a long beach and room to spread out
Karon is worth comparing with Kata if you like a longer beachfront and want to explore this stretch of the west coast. The area is spread out, so measure the walk from your hotel to the restaurants you would actually use. Check the road crossing and beach conditions rather than assuming that every “beachside” listing has direct sand access.
Patong — nightlife and a busier holiday
Patong is the clearest choice if bars, late dinners and nightlife are priorities. Choose your street carefully if sleep matters; being away from the busiest nightlife strip can help, but noise varies by property. Do not book here solely because the room looks inexpensive if you intend to spend most days in Nai Harn or the southern bays.
Bang Tao — a resort-focused stay
Put Bang Tao on the shortlist for a resort-led holiday, longer beach time and evenings centred on this part of the island. Compare the actual beach access and distances within the wider area. A hotel described as “Bang Tao” may still need a ride for dinner or the beach.
Rawai and Nai Harn — southern Phuket, with different beach roles
These places work well for a southern-focused stay, but they are not interchangeable. Rawai’s waterfront is associated with boats, food and island departures; do not choose it expecting the same beach-holiday setup as Nai Harn. If swimming is your priority, compare accommodation around Nai Harn and check how you will reach the sand from the property.
Nai Yang and Mai Khao — northern beaches and airport convenience
Consider the north if a slower resort stay and a shorter airport transfer matter more than sightseeing across southern Phuket. These areas are less convenient for repeated trips to Kata, Rawai or Patong. “Close to the airport” is an advantage on transfer day, not a promise of a convenient base for every attraction.
Phuket Old Town — food, architecture and city evenings
Old Town suits travellers who want cafés, shophouses and food-focused wandering. It is not a beachfront base. For a first week centred on swimming, we would usually choose a beach area and visit Old Town separately; a short split stay can make sense if exploring the town is a major interest.
How many days do you need in Phuket?
We recommend five to seven full days for a first visit that combines beach time, Old Town and one major excursion without changing hotels repeatedly. This is a pacing recommendation, not a rule. Count the days you can actually use: a late arrival and an early departure do not give you two sightseeing days.
- 3 full daysChoose one beach area, one Old Town or southern-coast outing, and one optional boat trip. Keep the priorities tight.
- 5 full daysAdd a slower beach day and a weather buffer. This is a useful balance if Phuket is part of a wider Thailand journey.
- 7 full daysGive the island a comfortable week: one main boat day, several beach sessions, food and culture, and time to change plans.
- 10 days or moreConsider a second base or a separate stay elsewhere on the Andaman coast instead of filling every day with a long excursion.
Phi Phi, Phang Nga Bay or Similan Islands: which trip should you choose?
These trips offer different experiences. Compare the pier, hotel pick-up area, time on the boat, swimming stops and park-fee arrangements, rather than choosing only from a cover photograph. An excursion advertised “from Phuket” can include a substantial road transfer before you reach the water.
Phi Phi and Maya Bay
Shortlist this for dramatic island scenery and a well-known first-time highlight. Phi Phi is in Krabi province. Ask exactly which bays, landings and snorkelling stops are included, and how much time each receives.
Know before booking: Maya Bay is a protected visit, not a free-swimming stop. Follow the current park rules.Phang Nga Bay
Choose this for limestone scenery and a trip built around the bay’s landscape. If canoeing matters, confirm that it is included and ask how the tide affects the programme.
Best fit: travellers more interested in scenery and exploring than a long white-sand beach day.Similan Islands
Consider the Similans for granite-island scenery, bright sand and marine activities. They are in Phang Nga, north of Phuket; the road transfer to the departure area is a significant part of the decision.
Check the full day: door-to-door duration, boat conditions and how much time is actually available at the islands.A closer island outing
If you want less time travelling, compare nearer-island options such as Ko He, often advertised as Coral Island. Ask about the exact beach, crowds, landing and activities; the island name alone is not an itinerary.
Useful alternative: a shorter excursion can be a better fit than the most ambitious trip on the list.
Before paying, ask five questions: Where do we depart? Is hotel transfer included for our exact address? Are national-park charges included? How are park tickets and passport details handled? What happens if the trip is cancelled because of weather?

A relaxed 7-day Phuket itinerary for a first trip
This is a sample structure for a seven-day stay with arrival and departure included, using a southwest-coast base such as Kata or Karon. Swap the island day with the flexible day when necessary, and move Old Town to Sunday if the market is a priority. Adjust the first and last days to your flight times.
- Day 1 · Arrive and stay localTransfer to your hotel, settle in and have dinner nearby. A beach walk is enough after a long journey.
- Day 2 · Enjoy your beach areaGive Kata or Karon a proper day rather than racing between five beaches. Take a shaded lunch break and leave the evening relaxed.
- Day 3 · Your chosen island tripChoose one of the experiences above. Keep the evening near your hotel after the early start and transfers.
- Day 4 · The southern coastCombine Karon Viewpoint, Nai Harn and a sunset viewpoint such as Promthep Cape. Treat each stop as optional if the beach is too good to leave.
- Day 5 · Old Town and local foodWalk a compact area of Thalang, Dibuk and nearby streets, with a café or museum break. On Sunday, consider staying for Lard Yai.
- Day 6 · Your flexible dayUse it for a postponed boat trip, another beach, a spa visit or a low-key cultural outing. A week does not need a major excursion every morning.
- Day 7 · A calm departureKeep the airport transfer generous and avoid a boat excursion before a flight. The right departure plan depends on your hotel and check-in time.

Phuket Old Town, local food and a useful rainy-day plan
Give Old Town time for more than a photograph. Start with a short loop around Thalang Road and neighbouring streets, look at the shophouse details, stop for lunch and leave room for a café. During very hot or wet weather, alternate walking with indoor breaks rather than forcing a long outdoor circuit.

Lard Yai is the Sunday walking-street market. If it matters to you, arrange the rest of the week around Sunday rather than arriving on another evening expecting the same market. Check the current event information before travelling across the island. The TAT Phuket itinerary brochure identifies it as a Sunday activity.
For food, start with a few dishes rather than an enormous restaurant list. Hokkien-style noodles, roti with curry and southern Thai cooking are useful directions to explore. For a named noodle stop, compare Go La’s current Michelin Guide listing; check the location and opening details before setting out. Tell the restaurant about allergies and ask about ingredients rather than relying on a photograph or translated dish name.

If the sea is unsuitable: use a town-and-food day, a museum visit, a café or a spa booking as the alternative. Check opening times and transport first. Your substitute should still be a day you want, rather than a rushed list of indoor attractions.
Phuket airport transfers and getting around without a scooter
For most first trips, it is possible to plan around a combination of a prearranged airport transfer, app-booked or licensed car rides and buses where the route fits. Ask your accommodation about its exact entrance and any pick-up restrictions. Allow for traffic, especially when crossing the island or heading to the airport.
The operator currently lists the Phuket Smart Bus airport–Rawai route at THB 100, with west-coast stops including Patong, Karon and Kata. It also lists a THB 50 Bus Terminal 2–Patong service and a free Dragon Line city shuttle. These are different services, not one interchangeable route. Check the operator’s timetable and live-tracking information for the journey you need.
A bus is useful when the stop, departure time and luggage arrangements fit your day. A car may be worth the extra cost after a late arrival, with several bags or for a hotel away from the main route. Compare the complete quoted price for a car and confirm any waiting or additional-stop charges.
How much should you budget for a week in Phuket?
Separate the room price from the costs of the holiday you want. Transfers, a boat excursion, restaurant choices and festive-period hotel rates can change the total considerably. The figures below are an illustrative Leeylo budgeting worksheet, not live quotes or a claim about average Phuket prices.
Example: two adults, seven calendar days and six hotel nights, sharing one room. All figures are in Thai baht. Change each allowance after comparing your own bookings.
- Hotel: THB 3,000 per room × 6 nights = THB 18,000.
- Food and non-alcoholic drinks: THB 800 per person × 2 people × 7 days = THB 11,200.
- Transport: a shared whole-trip allowance of THB 4,000.
- One boat excursion: THB 3,000 per person × 2 = THB 6,000.
- Other paid activities: THB 1,200 per person × 2 = THB 2,400.
To spend less, compare the hotel location and transport together, use local food options you genuinely enjoy and choose one excursion that matches your priorities. To spend more on comfort, put it into the room, convenient transfers and a less rushed schedule. For Christmas and New Year, rebuild the worksheet from actual property quotes rather than multiplying a November estimate.
Phuket travel checklist: documents, bookings and packing
Check entry permission for your passport and intended length of stay using the official Thai e-Visa service or the appropriate Thai embassy. Do not assume that a visa-free allowance seen in an older article still applies to your journey.
For travellers who need the Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC), the Immigration Bureau’s FAQ says to submit it within three days before arrival, including the arrival date. Use the official free portal and check the current FAQ for exemptions and details. The arrival card is separate from a visa or permission to stay.
For a beach-and-islands trip, pack for changing conditions rather than only for the photographs. A water-resistant bag for the crossing and a dry change of clothes can be more useful than another outfit.
Phuket in November: frequently asked questions
Is November a good month to visit Phuket?
It can be, especially if you can keep excursions flexible. November is a transition period on the Andaman coast, so plan for rain as well as beach weather and use current local advice for sea activities.
Is Kata or Kamala better for a first trip?
Our starting point is Kata for a balanced beach stay with southern-coast exploring, or Kamala for a gentler west-coast holiday. Compare the specific hotel location, evening walk and transport requirements before choosing.
Should I stay in Patong if I do not want nightlife?
Patong can work if the property and street suit you, but there is little reason to choose its busiest area when late-night entertainment is not a priority. Compare Kata, Kamala or Karon against your actual plans.
Is Rawai a good choice for a swimming holiday?
Rawai can be a useful southern base, but its waterfront is different from Nai Harn’s beach setting. Check where you will actually swim and how you will get there each day.
Are the Similan Islands open in November 2026?
TAT reported their reopening on 15 October 2026. That seasonal reopening does not guarantee every individual departure: check the current park and operator arrangements for your dates.
Can you swim at Maya Bay?
Maya Bay has conservation restrictions, including a swimming prohibition. Follow the current national-park instructions and compare an excursion’s separate snorkelling or swimming stops.
Can I visit Phuket without renting a scooter?
Yes. Choose a convenient base and combine appropriate bus routes, car rides and prearranged transfers. The trade-off is transport cost and scheduling, which should be part of the hotel decision.
Is seven days too long in Phuket?
A week can work well if you enjoy beaches and leave some time unplanned. For a trip focused mainly on sightseeing, consider fewer Phuket days and a separate stay elsewhere rather than adding repeated long excursions.
Is this article a personalized itinerary?
This is a general planning guide with a sample week. A Leeylo Phuket plan is a separate digital product; choose your trip length or the personalized option on the product page.
